WAX professional events are intended to provide students the opportunity to learn about the culture and business practices of Asia. Prominent businessmen from around the world are invited annually to share their career experiences, corporate culture, and opportunities arising in Asia. In the past, we organized topic panels, and we are now focused on coordinating keynote speaker events.

IMUSE 2008

The Wharton Asia Exchange played a key role in organizing IMUSE 2008: Initiating Mutual Understanding Through Student Exchange. Held from February 28th through March 1st of this year, the event was host to several cultural events geared towards helping undergraduate and graduate students in the Philadelphia area understand issues facing China in the 21st century.

Speakers at the event included Yibing Wu, Lenovo’s Chief Transformation Officer, and Managing Director at McKinsey & Company Beijing and a panel of student delegates from the Peking and Tsinghua Universities in China.

Issues discussed ranged from various industry initiatives to key points regarding China’s cultural westernization, social response to rapid economic growth, censorship, and democratization. Students were also given the opportunity to interact with these speakers on a personal basis at various dinners hosted throughout the weekend.
